Riding Through Dreamland

is the story of my cross-country bicycle trek I took in the summer of 2021. Motivated by the pressing need to temporarily extricate myself from my corporate job and slake my thirst for travel, adventure, and personal reflection, I grabbed the bull by the short horns and set off on the ride I had been dreaming about for decades.

Honey and onions is a metaphor I employ throughout the book to represent the tension between conflicting choices one faces in life. Throughout the ten-week trek, I seemed to encounter the pull of the opposites almost daily. This tension was true for my personal life as well as for the country I was riding through. Ultimately, I came to recognize that we Americans voluntarily live in a dreamworld perpetuated by commercial interests, supported by foundational myths of our collective self-identity.
