Riding Through Dreamland

is the story of my cross-country bicycle trek I took in the summer of 2021. Motivated by the pressing need to temporarily extricate myself from my corporate job and slake my thirst for travel, adventure, and personal reflection, I grabbed the bull by the short horns and set off on the ride I had been dreaming about for decades.

Honey and onions is a metaphor I employ throughout the book to represent the tension between conflicting forces one faces in life. Throughout the ten-week trek, I encountered the pull of the opposites almost daily. This tension was true for my personal life as well as for the country I was riding through. Ultimately, I came to recognize that we Americans voluntarily live in a dreamworld perpetuated by manipulative, commercial interests, the foundational myths of our national self-identity, and the instinctive drive to fulfill our short-term needs.
